Day 1 Stockholm
Arrival in Stockholm. Private transfer to your hotel.
Stockholm is often called “Venice of the North” since it was built on 14 islands between the lake Mälaren and
the Baltic Sea. The biggest city of Scandinavia offers spectacular views thanks to its surrounding waters and its birch, pine and fir forests. Clean, green and without too many cars around, Greta Garbo's native city is full of charm. The
Stockholm marathon route is considered the most beautiful in the world and the city's archipelago – 30 000 islands – is a true wildlife sanctuary only a few minutes away!
Day 2 Stockholm
City sightseeing by coach and boat.
Day 3 Stockholm-Grisslehamn-Eckerö/Åland
Pick up your car downtown or have it delivered to your hotel. On your first day behind the
steering wheel, you will drive through the Roslagen region to Grisslehamn, where the ferry boat for Åland is waiting for you. The voyage takes two hours and you will have plenty of time for a nice meal and some tax-free shopping.
Åland is an autonomous and unilingually Swedish region in Finland with its own flag, its own stamps, license plates and its own Internet domain (.ax).
Åland is a great place for those who want to be close to nature, breathe fresh
air and take on new challenges. The 6 500 islands will give you nature experiences you will not forget. The sea is always close. You will find everything from red granite and the harsh outer island archipelago to forests and lush forest
meadows.
Day 4 Åland
Why not treat yourself to some excellent sport fishing on Åland? Åland offers one of the best perch fishing waters in the world and is famous for its
excellent pike waters. Salmon trolling is increasing in popularity and in the autumn, winter and spring, sport fishing is highlighted by the pursuit of the sea trout! Fishing from the shore is prohibited between April 15 and June 15, in
order to protect breeding waterfowls.
Check out the Maritime Museum, the Museum Ship Pommern and the Maritime Quarter in Mariehamn to find out more about Åland's exciting shipping history.
We also recommend a visit to
Kastelholm Castle. First mentioned in 1388, Kastelholm Castle has been visited by several famous kings, among them Gustavus Vasa in the 16th century. Just next to the castle, you will find Jan Karlsgården, an idyllic open-air museum where
you can visit a typical 19th century farm.
Åland will also give you some good food memories. Next to a variety of locally produced fish dishes and the rich black bread, do not miss out on the traditional Åland pancake with stewed
prunes and whipped cream!
Day 5 Åland archipelago: Brändö-Osnäs/Vuosnainen-Turku
Today you will enjoy the Åland archipelago by sea onboard ferries run by the Åland public
transport! We will do the booking for you and your car on the two ferries. We recommend that you do this trip in one go and spend the night in Turku, approximately 80 km from Osnäs harbour on the mainland.
Day 6 Turku
Turku was once the capital of Finland and this is Finland's oldest city. Turku was named Åbo by the Swedish settlers, and its Finnish name Turku is an old Russian word for ”marketplace”.
Turku has a renowned university, which was founded in 1640, and you will most certainly find what you are looking for if you are into arts and antiques.
Turku Castle was founded in 1280 and is well worth a visit. This is one of the
oldest buildings in Finland still in use. And this national monument is present in many Finn’s everyday life, since it has become the symbol of Finland's most popular brand of mustard, Turun sinappi!
The Luostarinmaki Handicrafts
Museum is an open-air museum where you will step back 200 years in time. Over 30 workshops from different fields of craftmanship display Turku's handicrafts history. Luostarinmäki is the "Old City" of Turku since it is the only
unified part of the city that survived the conflagration of 1827.
The Old Great Square is a must to visit all year around. The Medieval Market is arranged immediately after Midsummer and five months later, the Christmas atmosphere
is felt during the four weekends of Advent, when the Old Great Square becomes a famous Christmas market.
Day 7 Turku-Helsinki (165 km)
The slogan of the Finnish capital captures
its soul - ”Scandinavian attitude with a hint of bittersweet Slavic melancholy”. Helsinki is full of contrasts and its identity has been formed by cultural influences from both East and West.
Over 450 years of history, several
architectural layers and the impact of different periods can be clearly seen in Helsinki. Finnish design has also made the country’s capital city world famous. The beauty of the surrounding nature blends seamlessly together with high-tech
achievements, while old traditions mix with the latest contemporary trends.
Day 8 Helsinki
You have the possibility to join a city sightseeing tour of Helsinki in order to get a
good overview of the city. You will also have free admission to a lot of interesting sights.
The Senate Square and its surroundings form a unique and cohesive example of Neoclassical architecture. The square is dominated by four
buildings: the Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the main building of the University of Helsinki and the National Library of Finland. Helsinki Cathedral is arguably Finland's most famous and photographed building and it celebrated
its 150th anniversary in 2002.
Off the coast of Helsinki, Suomenlinna fortress is one of the biggest sea fortresses in the world. It is included in Unesco’s World Heritage List and is explored on foot. In the summer, there are
daily guided tours in English and in the winter there are tours in English at weekends.
Day 9 Helsinki
Your departure to Stockholm is in the afternoon, so you have plenty of time
for shopping or more sightseeing.
Quarried out of the natural bedrock, Temppeliaukio Church is one of Helsinki's most popular tourist attractions. The interior walls are created naturally by the rock. The church opened in 1969 and
due to its excellent acoustics the church is a popular venue for concerts.
The Uspenski Cathedral is the largest orthodox church in Western Europe. With its golden cupolas and red-brick facade, the church is one of the clearest
symbols of the Russian impact on Finnish history.
Your cruise ship to Stockholm departs at 5PM.
Day 10 Stockholm
Arrival Stockholm at 9.30 AM. Return your car downtown
